Jane Howell Teacher Education Scholarship for Students of Color

Jane Howell

WMC and WMEF support and promote the need for greater racial and ethnic diversity among Wisconsin educators.  Believing that broadening the racial and ethnic diversity of Wisconsin’s teacher workforce is important for both students of color and white students, it is to this end that WMEF is proud to offer the Jane Howell Teacher Education Scholarship for Students of Color.

WMEF currently offers a $2,000 scholarship to a qualified student that identifies as a Student of Color and who is currently enrolled in a Wisconsin university or college, who intends to teach mathematics in a racially diverse environment.

To be eligible a student must:
    • be a resident of Wisconsin
    • be currently enrolled in a Wisconsin university or college
    • be of one or more of the above listed race/ethnic backgrounds
    • be a college/university sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student that has not yet earned a baccalaureate degree in education
    • be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at a Wisconsin institution of higher education in a course of study which, upon completion, qualifies the applicant as a preschool, elementary, or a secondary teacher with a focus on mathematics

All applicants for the Jane Howell Teacher Education Scholarship for Students of Color must have a strong desire to teach mathematics in a racially/ethnically diverse environment, to complete a baccalaureate degree in education and to work in a PreK–12 education setting in the state of Wisconsin.
